THE SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE CENTER CENTER Education. Entertainment. Events.

YOUR DONATION WILL HELP CREATE A FACILITY THAT OFFERS:

EDUCATION

A place to teach, learn, and grow — offering classrooms for college courses, career training, continuing ed and K-12 support, right here in the heart of the lake community.

ENTERTAINMENT

From concerts and theater to special film showings, our 300-seat performance venue and dedicated cinema will be a space for applauding, inspiring and connecting through the arts.

EVENTS

Our flexible gallery and event space will host workshops, festivals, celebrations and community gatherings — making it easy to meet, collaborate and celebrate close to home.

3D Floor Plan of proposed Phase 1 renovation
The 3D floor plan of the proposed Phase 1 renovation turning Westlake Cinema into The Smith Mountain Lake Center includes the removal of the first theater. This change makes space for a welcome gallery with cafe, a classroom/rehearsal room, a garden/patio and meeting rooms. The second theater will gain a performance stage with an attached green room. The third and fourth theaters will remain as-is to continue showing movies.

OUR MISSION & VISION

We envision The Smith Mountain Lake Center as a vibrant, purpose-driven venue where members of our community can come together to learn, create, perform, celebrate and grow. Located in the heart of Westlake, this revitalized facility will spark connection, fuel opportunity and serve as a hub for education, entertainment, events and community life.

A VISION TAKES SHAPE

We’ve taken the first big step! The Smith Mountain Lake Center Inc. has signed a letter of intent to purchase Westlake Cinema. This marks a major milestone in saving the beloved local theater and transforming it into a vibrant space for learning, entertainment, meetings and events that connect the SML community and surrounding region. We’ve launched a fundraising campaign to enable the purchase, renovation and future programming — including continued film showings. Your support is critically needed to make this vision a reality.

Next up: Auditions are March 2-3 for Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical.
